Descripción del título
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle contains an account year by year of events relevant to English history. King Alfred might have been the original initiator of this history work. It is preserved in several medieval manuscripts, which all contain the same text for the early years, but then provide more or less differing accounts of more recent year. This is the text of the main manuscript, called the Peterborough manuscript (for this is where it was probably written). Four other manuscripts are also excerpted in the Viking Sources in Translation, but only for the years in which they differ significantly from the Peterborough manuscript.
