The conversation of young basque native speakers on line and face to face. The case of code switching Basque-Spanish

The objective of this article is to analyze the Code Switching (CS) of Basque native speakers in casual conversation and in their communication by whatsapp. As a summary we try to answer these questions: What CS pattern can be identified among young Basque speakers? What cultural, psychological, educational, grammatical factors are involved in the youth CS? What are the causes of CS? The results show that CS is a linguistic fact that is absolutely not marked. The functions performed by CS are different: reiteration, humour, references in another language, the change of role, emphasis and the expression of emotion, among others

El objetivo de este artículo es analizar el Cambio de Código (CC) de hablantes nativos vascos en conversación informal y en su comunicación por whatsapp. Se trata de dar respuesta a estas preguntas: Qué patrones de CC pueden ser identificados entre los jóvenes vascoparlantes? En qué circunstancias cambian de código? Qué factores culturales, psicológicos, educacionales y gramaticales están implicados en el CC de los jóvenes? Cuáles son las causas del CC? Los resultados muestran que el CC es un hecho lingüístico absolutamente no marcado. Las funciones que desempeña el CC son distintas: la reiteración, el humor, las referencias en otra lengua, el cambio de rol, el énfasis y la expresión de la emoción, entre otras
