The aim of this papper is to analize the potential of the concept of "good taste" in the Buenos Aires newspaper between 1801 and 1827 to investigate the various aspects of sociability and sensitivity of the elite. The "good taste" is traced from the meanings associated with the concept of civility, in the sense of good manners and customs, to referring to the aesthetic judgments proper to theater and music. The hypothesis that guides the work is that the concept went through a double process of change: one, related to the scale and another to the semantic. However the concept always referred to identity as an oppositional frontier that allowed the elite to be constituted while legitimizing itself
El objetivo de las líneas que siguen reside en analizar el potencial del concepto de "buen gusto" en la prensa porteña entre 1801 y 1827 para indagar las diversas facetas de la sociabilidad y sensibilidad de la élite letrada. Específicamente, se buscó el corrimiento del "buen gusto" desde las acepciones ligadas al espectro de la civilidad, en tanto buenas maneras y costumbres, hasta referirse a los juicios estéticos propios del teatro y la música. La hipótesis que guía el trabajo es, pues, que el concepto atravesó por un doble proceso de cambio: uno, relacionado a la escala y otro a su carga semántica. Sin embargo, más allá de ello, el concepto siempre refirió a la identidad como frontera oposicional que permitió a la élite constituirse al tiempo que legitimarse
