Background: habits and abilities are complex levels of the person's domain on the activity that he/she carries out. Particularly, in the medical sciences the clinical abilities constitute a leading principle, in the learning process of this branch of knowledge. Objective: to value the development of the third year students clinical abilities in the Medicine career in the Medical Propedeutics subject. Methods: it was carried out an observational, cross-sectional descriptive research work, in "Arnaldo Milián Castro" University Hospital, from January to May 2014. The study population comprised 42 students of the group that received the Medical Propedeutics subject, the sample matches the population. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis and inductivedeductive; and empiric ones: documental analysis and the scientific observation, for that purpose a guide was elaborated that was validated by professors of the Internal Medicine professorship of this university hospital. Results: it was verified that most of the students obtained a 4 mark in the five evaluated abilities, in decreasing order: the doctor-patient interview, transcription of the history of the present illness, oral presentation, clinical reasoning and physical exam. Conclusions: the students demonstrated to have acquired the clinical abilities in the Medical Propedeutics subject although with some difficulties in the realization of the nervous system physical exam and in the clinical reasoning
Fundamento: las habilidades y los hábitos son complejos niveles de dominio de la persona sobre la actividad que realiza. En las ciencias médicas en particular, las habilidades clínicas constituyen un principio rector en el proceso de aprendizaje de esta rama del saber.Objetivo: valorar el desarrollo de las habilidades clínicas de los estudiantes de tercer año de la carrera de Medicina en la asignatura Propedéutica Médica.Métodos: se realizó una investigación de tipo descriptivo observacional en el Hospital Universitario "Arnaldo Milián Castro", en el período comprendido enero-mayo 2014. La población de estudio estuvo constituida por los 42 estudiantes del grupo que recibieron la asignatura Propedéutica Médica, se trabajó con el total de la población. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos: análisis-síntesis e inductivo-deductivo; y empíricos: análisis documental y la observación científica, para lo cual se elaboró una guía que fue validada por profesores de la Cátedra de Medicina Interna de dicha institución hospitalaria.Resultados: se constató que la mayor parte de los estudiantes obtuvo calificación de bien en las cinco habilidades evaluadas, en orden decreciente: interrogatorio, transcripción de la historia de la enfermedad actual, presentación oral, razonamiento clínico y examen físico.Conclusiones: los estudiantes demostraron haber adquirido las habilidades clínicas en la asignatura Propedéutica Médica, aunque aún con dificultades en la realización examen físico del sistema nervioso y en el razonamiento clínico
