La Federalwas built as a political and social utopia during the Revolutionary Sexennium. Republicans consciously promoted their project as utopian, by understanding that their job was to create a possible future to which their action should be directed. The political part of utopia was a federation emerging from the pact between independent cantons, formed and chosen spontaneously by the people. Social utopia was a federation of agricultural and industrial producers. The result was the imagined Republic that led to the permanent revolution, until its failed implementation in 1873
La Federalse constituyó como una utopía política y social durante el Sexenio Revolucionario. Los republicanos promovieron conscientemente su proyecto como utopía al entender que su labor era crear un futuro posible al que debía dirigirse su acción. La parte política de la utopía era una federación surgida del pacto entre cantones independientes, formados y elegidos espontáneamente por el pueblo. La utopía social era una federación de productores agrícolas e industriales. El resultado fue la República imaginada que les llevó a la revolución permanente, hasta su fracasada puesta en práctica en 1873
