This paper examines the visual and narrative discourse as a representation built through articles and photographs published in National Geographic on the island of Jamaica. It highlights the strategies and the various tropes, stereotypes, and repetition that helped create an image of the island territory and its population over several decades of the twentieth century

Cet écrit analyse les articles des discours narratifs et visuels sur l'île de la Jamaïque, publiés dans la revue National Geographic. On peut remarquer les stratégies suivies ainsi que les différentes figures littéraires telles que les tropes, les stéréotypes et les réitérations lesquels ont contribué à créer une image du territoire insulaire et de sa population pendant quelques décades du XXe siècle

Este artículo analiza los discursos narrativos y visuales que a través de artículos y fotografías publicadas en la revista National Geographic construyeron una representación de la isla de Jamaica. Se destacan las estrategias seguidas así como los diversos tropos, estereotipos, y reiteraciones que contribuyeron a crear una imagen del territorio insular y de su población a lo largo de varias décadas del siglo xx
