This paper clarifies the current situation faced by the city of Portoviejo in the canton bearing the same name, province of Manabi, the same that was affected by the devastating earthquake called 16A. Thereafter the authorities and the community have tried to unify efforts to develop innovative and planned proposals to wake up the tourist activity and self-esteem of citizens; homever melancholy and desolation are still part of daily life for citizens and this is a negative factor that must be overcome to start activating the tourist economy. That is why the strategy of the governments agencies aims to overcome fear to start building and adapt the city with proper planning, but is it enough?, it is difficult mystery to solve, but not impossible, and proof of this is that, from the beginning, after what happened, local authorities have tried to self-esteem of portovejense not decay, continuing with the works scheduled and managing investment to have a modern city in the future
El presente trabajo matiza la situación actual que padece el cantón Portoviejo, provincia de Manabí, la misma que fue afectada por el devastador terremoto del denominado 16A. De ahí en adelante se han tratado de unificar esfuerzos para desarrollar propuestas innovadoras y planificadas en pro de la actividad turística y de levantar el auto estima de los ciudadanos, sin embargo la melancolía y la desolación aún forman parte del diario vivir de los ciudadanos, y es este un factor en contra que se debe superar para empezar a activar la economía turística. Es por ello que la estrategia de los entes gubernamentales apunta a superar el miedo para empezar a construir y adecuar la ciudad con una debida planificación, pero bastará aquello para poder hacerlo?, es la incógnita difícil de despejar, pero no imposible, y muestra de ello es que, desde un principio, después de lo sucedido, las autoridades locales han tratado que la autoestima del portovejense no decaiga, continuando con las obras programadas y gestionando la inversión para en un futuro tener una ciudad moderna
