The aim of this paper is to draw attention on a short poem dedicated to Juanelo Turriano of Cremona, watchmaker of Charles V and Philip II. This poem was included in the anthology entitled Elogia Illustrium artificum of Pierleone Casella, an humanist from the Farnese intellectual circle in Rome. One of Turriano's most celebrated artifacts was the so-called "Cristallino", an amazing planetary clock made during his retreat at Yuste. Previously, he managed to supply water to the Alcazar of Toledo in the highest part of the city, thanks to an extremely complex mechanical device known as the "Artificio -or Ingenio- de Juanelo", an achievement especially praised by his contemporaries. Both feats were metaphorically glossed in the Casella's elogium included among his illustres artifices. Federico Zuccari, the painter and essayist who saw and admired the "artificio" in Toledo (1585-1588), could influence his decision.
El objeto del presente trabajo es un breve poema dedicado a Juanelo Turriano de Cremona, relojero de Carlos V y Felipe II, incluido en el florilegio titulado Elogia illustrium artificum de Pierleone Casella, miembro del círculo de humanistas en torno a los Farnese en Roma. Una de las obras más famosa de Turriano fue la construcción durante su retiro en Yuste de un asombroso reloj planetario conocido como el Cristalino. Con anterioridad había realizado un sistema para abastecer de agua el Alcázar de Toledo a través de un ingenio mecánico de gran complejidad, llamado el "artificio -o el ingenio- de Juanelo", que causó gran admiración entre sus contemporáneos. Ambas proezas aparecen metafóricamente glosadas en el elogium de Casella, quien lo incluyó entre sus illustres artifices probablemente influido por el pintor y tratadista Federico Zuccari, que sí tuvo la oportunidad de ver y alabar dicho "artificio" en Toledo (1585-1588)
