Our article aims to analyze the public policies of beautification of Manaus having, as main sources, a message of governor of 1893 in which Eduardo Ribeiro presents some of his proposals of works to be done during his mandate, but also it presents an annex of a report of the interim's hygiene inspector. In addition, we will use the Code of Municipal Postures of Manaus that same year. We believe that the discussions can give us an overview of the public policies for the hygienic regulation and control of the public space of Manaus, thus demystifying that the plan of beautification of Manaus was restricted to the center of the city and the monumental works. That is, what we want to show is that the modernization plan of Manaus was strictly linked to a sanitation policy
Nosso artigo objetiva analisar as políticas públicas de embelezamento de Manaus tendo, como fontes principais, uma mensagem de governador de 1893 em que Eduardo Ribeiro apresenta algumas de suas propostas de obras a serem feitas durante seu mandato, como também expõe em anexo um relatório do inspetor de higiene interino. Além disso, usaremos o Código de Posturas Municipais de Manaus do mesmo ano. Acreditamos que as discussões podem nos dar um panorama das políticas públicas para a normatização e controle higiênico do espaço público de Manaus, desmistificando assim o argumento de que o plano de embelezamento de Manaus esteve restrito ao centro da cidade e às obras monumentais. Ou seja, o que queremos mostrar é que esse plano de modernização de Manaus estava estritamente ligado a uma política de saneamento
