During the years 1900 - 1910 the opera was a popular art form in Valencian society. The large number of functions and coliseums of the city of Valencia in their operas representing proscenium testify to this. But, however, from the second decade of the twentieth century witnessed a sharp decline of this genre, especially after the First World War a nd the advent of cinematography. Closing the Teatro Real in Madrid and the economic depression of 1929 will be the last two factors that lead to the opera almost disappearance in Valencia
Durante los años 1900 - 1910 la ópera fue una manifestación artística muy popular en la sociedad valenciana. El elevado número de funciones y de coliseos de la capital del Turia que representaban óperas en sus proscenios así lo atestiguan. Empero, no obstan te, a partir del segundo decenio del siglo XX asistimos a un franco declive de este género, especialmente después de la I Guerra Mundial y la irrupción del cinematógrafo. El cierre del Teatro Real de Madrid y la depresión económica de 1929 serán los dos úl timos factores que llevarán a la ópera prácticamente a su desaparición en Valencia
