This paper aims to discuss what means today to have a commitment to the working class and to a free society, taking as base the call of CFESS/Cress for the commemorations of the social assistant day in this year of 2011. It utilizes the social theory of Marx and the historical materialism. It also tries to promote a brief historical revision on the themes of class struggles and social movements in order to debate the challenges faced today by the Social Work in the perspective of the emancipation of the human being
Este texto busca refletir sobre o que quer dizer, hoje, ter compromisso de classe por uma sociedade emancipada, tomando como ponto de partida o chamado do conjunto CFESS/Cress para as comemorações do dia do/a assistente social neste ano de 2011. Com base na teoria social de Marx, utiliza o materialismo histórico como método de análise e orientação para a reflexão, realizando um breve resgate histórico sobre as lutas e movimentos sociais através da história com o objetivo de indicar elementos para o debate sobre os desafios enfrentados pelo Serviço Social na perspectiva da emancipação humana
