Del barro al tereftalato de polietileno: el oficio de aguador en México

This article is a brief history of an urban profession that is considered to be extinct in Mexico: the water-carrier. It focuses on four case studies -Mexico, Guanajuato, Oaxaca and Jacona, Michoacan- to establish a kind of typology of water carriers based on the artifacts used to transport and provide drinking water, which took on multiple forms according to the historical contexts in which such services were provided. These devices ranged from earthen jugs, those fabricated from wood, leather and sheet metal, and those produced from the synthetic material better known as PET. This work is based on information from archives, chronicles, paintings, engravings, lithographs, photographs and field work

Este artículo es una historia breve de un oficio urbano que se consideraba desaparecido en México: los aguadores. A partir de cuatro estudios de caso: México, Guanajuato, Oaxaca y Jacona en Michoacán trataremos de hacer una especie de tipología de los aguadores estudiando los artificios que usaban y usan para transportar y dotar de servicio de agua potable, habiendo tenido múltiples formas de acuerdo a los contextos históricos en los que los aguadores han venido prestando sus servicios. Desde el cántaro, pasando por el cuero, la madera y la lámina hasta llegar al material sintético derivado del petróleo, mejor conocido como PET. Este trabajo se sustentará en información de archivo, crónicas, pinturas y grabados, litografías, fotografías y trabajo de campo
