Autotanasia: Aspectos ético...
In our contemporary world, the act of taking one's own life involves aspects wich are, in general, considered wrong. This study shows the different attitudes assumed by Western tradition in considering such an act. A special accent is made on the attitude prevalent in ancient Rome, where this was seen as a way to preserve personal dignity and assert one's individual freedom. The social conditions in which such an act occurred are analyzed here, in order to compare them with the presente situation, both in the taking of one's own life, and in dying, in general. A new manner of approaching such an experience is proposed, which implies educational processes and non-negative attitudes; this position justifies the use of the terco autothanasia instead of suicide
El acto de tomar la propia vida envuelve en nuestro mundo contemporáneo aspectos muy problemáticos y, en general, mal vistos. En la tradición occidental las actitudes hacia este acto han sido diferenciadas, destacándose el modo como se asumía en la antigua Roma, cuyas connotaciones no siempre eran peyorativas sino, por el contrario, eran una forma de preservar la propia dignidad y de afirmar la libertad personal. Se hace énfasis en las condiciones sociales en las que se solía presentar tal acto para contrastarlas con las condiciones actuales tanto del tomar la propia vida, como del morir en general. Se propone, a partir de allí, un modo distinto para asumir hoy tal experiencia, lo que supone procesos de educación al respecto y valoraciones no negativas de tal acto; ello justifica, finalmente, que aquí se hable de autotanasia y no de suicidio
