Avilés ante un nuevo futuro
This text makes reference to the challenge of changing that the town of Avilés faces nowadays. The traditional condition of a basic industrial city brought out many negative consequences, not only the economical crisis and the industrial rationalization, but also all those related to Aviles' sparse qualification for the following renovation. The new Plan that should set up the principles and create the urban conditions for changing cannot be just a remedy against the inherited situation: an estrategic City Project is required so that the oportunities can be identified. The town must recover its leading role, specially related to new diversified services, encouraging its double centralizing condition (regional and metropolitan) and restoring the highly valuable space of the river mouth and the estuary, to the which Aviles always grew turning its back on
El texto refleja el reto actual de cambio al que se enfrenta la ciudad de Avilés de cara a su futuro. Las consecuencias de una caracterización tradicional como ciudad industrial básica no fueron sólo las económicas de la crisis y la reconversión, sino también las relacionadas con su insuficiente cualificación ante la renovación. El nuevo Plan que siente las bases y cree las condiciones urbanas para el cambio debe superar una función sólo remedial de la situación heredada: se requiere un Proyecto de Ciudad estratégico que identifique las oportunidades. La ciudad debe recuperar su protagonismo, vinculado especialmente a los servicios diversificados, apostando por su doble centralidad (comarcal y metropolitana) y recuperando el valioso espacio de su singular Ría y del estuario, respecto a los que creció siempre de espaldas
