The present work highlights some historicalaspects of three novels from the abundantliterary production of the Mexican writer, CarlosFuentes. Th e Mexican writer denies the possibilityof historical progress: humanity lives in a perpetualpresent and repeats a series of ceremonial acts.Th is is the basic idea of the fi rst analysed novel, Achange of skin (1967) where the beliefs in a prehispanicworld and the history of the XXth centurycoexist. Th e other work, Terra nostra (1985),evokes the Hispanic past: it tries to reconstructthe history of XVIth Spain using the methods ofthe novel, and, as part of this history, also outlinesthe arrival of the Spanish on the American continent.Th e third novel, Christopher Unborn (1987),suggests an apocalyptical vision of the future ofMexico and it is also build on real facts: it recreateshistorical events
El presente trabajo pone de relieve algunosaspectos históricos de tres novelas de la abundanteproducción literaria del escritor mexicano,Carlos Fuentes. El escritor mexicano niega la posibilidaddel progreso histórico: la humanidad viveen un presente perpetuo y repite una serie de actosceremoniales. Es la idea básica de la primera novelaexaminada, Cambio de piel (1967) donde convivenlas creencias del mundo prehispánico con la historiadel siglo XX. La otra obra, Terra nostra (1985)evoca el pasado hispánico: trata de reconstruir lahistoria de Espana del siglo XVI con los recursosde la novela, y, como parte de esta historia, esbozatambién la llegada de los espanoles al continenteamericano. La tercera novela, Cristóbal Nonato(1987) sugiere una visión apocalíptica sobre el futurode México y se construye también de hechosreales: re-crea ciertos acontecimientos históricos
