En el presente texto se desarrollan los fundamentos de la autonomía social de acuerdo con lo expuesto por Cornelius Castoriadis, llegando a explicitar que gran parte de las formas sociales contemporáneas responden, más bien, a una heteronomía social y que el legado griego de la democracia ateniense de la época antigua, constituye una superación de aquellas formas heterónomas. De esta manera se pone de manifiesto la relación entre la autonomía como tal y la democracia
