Un gruppo di corali miniati di diversi conventi domenicani dell?Italia meridionale, offre nuovo materiale di studio per l?iconografia dei santi dell?ordine dei frati Predicatori ed in particolare di Pietro da Verona. Mai presi in considerazione dalle indagini, pur numerose, sull?iconografia domenicana, essi consentono di tracciare con più chiarezza l?evoluzione degli schemi iconografici utilizzati per il santo martire. Mentre la scena dei pellegrini al sepolcro è comune ai cicli figurativi di numerosi altri santi e riflette le modalità del pellegrinaggio medievale ad sepulcrum, altre rappresentazioni di Pietro, come ad esempio la sottoscrizione del Credo in punto di morte e le coronae aureolae, trovano la loro origine nella riflessione teologica ed agiografica che immediatamente si sviluppa dopo il suo martirio
A group of illuminated choir books from various Dominican cloisters in South Italy provide new material on the iconography of the saints of Order of Preachers, and particularly on Peter of Verona. Although they have not been taken in consideration in previous researches on Dominican iconography, these manuscripts are a valuable mean to clarify the evolution of Peter?s representations. Although the scene of pilgrims near the Holy Sepulchre to request thaumaturgic intervention is common to figurative cycles of numerous saints, other representations of Peter directly originate from the theological and hagiographic reflections that were developed after his martyrdom
