Crohn's disease is an inflammatory chronic disease that affects gastrointestinal tract. Recently its incidence and prevalence has increased notably throughout the world and, as a consequence, it has become a disease with serious economic and social impact. Changes in the intestinal microbiota, alterations in the immune system, genetic predisposition and environmental factors increase the risk of suffering from Crohn's disease. To carry out an adequate approach to this disease, it is necessary to have a series of therapeutic strategies that combine pharmacological treatment, enteral nutrition, dietary guidelines and surgery. These strategies, all together with nursing interventions, make possible to improve the quality of life of the patient and reduce the physical, psychological and social repercussion associated with this disease. Because of this, with the labor of the nurse, through care and educational interventions, promotes therapeutic adherence, self-care and better control of the disease by the patient
La enfermedad de Crohn es una enfermedad inflamatoria y crónica que afecta al tracto gastrointestinal. En los últimos años, ha aumentado tanto su incidencia como su prevalencia de forma notable en todo el mundo y, como consecuencia, se ha instaurado como una enfermedad con gran impacto económico y social. Los cambios en la microbiota intestinal, las alteraciones en el sistema inmunológico, la predisposición genética y los factores ambientales incrementan el riesgo de desarrollar enfermedad de Crohn. Para realizar un abordaje adecuado de la enfermedad son necesarias una serie de estrategias terapéuticas que combinen el tratamiento farmacológico, la nutrición enteral, las pautas dietéticas y la cirugía. Estas estrategias junto con las intervenciones enfermeras permiten mejorar la calidad de vida del paciente y la disminución de las repercusiones físicas, psicológicas y sociales asociadas a la enfermedad. Por ello, la labor de la enfermera, a través de cuidados e intervenciones educativas, favorece la adhesión terapéutica, el autocuidado y un mejor control de la enfermedad por parte del paciente
