At present, the demographic situation in most developed countries is changing considerably, because of the number of births is reducing, the active population is decreasing and life expectancy is increasing. This leads us to a growing aging of the population with important economic, labor, social and fiscal implications in the present, but especially in the future, without forgetting the concern for the welfare of our elderly. The increase in the life expectancy of citizens is a success of the welfare state, but also a social and health challenge that society must address, which entails, among other aspects, the need to increase the number of nursing homes in Spain. For this reason, we will focus our work on studying the financial situation of companies dedicated to the care of the elderly in order to study their viability and profitability. Due to this fact, we will use economic and financial variables of the different Spanish companies, establishing the differences and similarities between them in the different Autonomous Communities
En la actualidad, la situación demográfica de la mayoría de los países desarrollados está cambiando considerablemente, pues se ha reducido el número de nacimientos, ha disminuido la población activa y se ha incrementado la esperanza de vida. Todo ello nos lleva a un creciente envejecimiento de la población con importantes implicaciones económicas, laborales, sociales y fiscales en el presente, pero especialmente en el futuro, sin olvidarnos de la preocupación por el bienestar de nuestros mayores. El aumento de la esperanza de vida de los ciudadanos es un éxito del estado del bienestar, pero también un reto social y sanitario que la sociedad debe abordar, esto conlleva, entre otros aspectos, la necesidad de incrementar el número de residencias en España. Por este motivo, centraremos nuestro trabajo en estudiar la situación financiera de las sociedades que se dedican a la atención de los mayores con el fin de estudiar su viabilidad y rentabilidad. En este sentido se utilizarán variables de carácter económico y financiero de las diferentes sociedades españolas, estableciendo las diferencias y similitudes existentes entre ellas en las diferentes Comunidades Autónomas
