The aim of this article is to study a passage of the Mozarabic Chronicle of 754, known as the lamentation for the 'Loss of Spain'. It researches about the meaning of it and the fact that breaks the 'chronistic' structure and style, besides the historical view that underlies it. Moreover, it explores the relationship between the mourn and the thesis about providentialism, the arabs and divine punishment. The paper suggests to consider this passage in relation whit the whole work, the characteristics of the chronicle genre and the culture of his author. Finally, proposes that the 'Loss of Spain' has to be understood as a confluence of two tendencies: a providential interpretation of the Arab invasion and a Hispanic sense of identity. These tendencies make the author break the structure and style of his own work in order to introduce a lamentation that reminiscence the 'tragic' invasion of the year 711
Este trabajo estudia un pasaje de la Crónica Mozárabe del 754 conocido como el lamento por la 'Pérdida de España', preguntándose por el sentido de este pasaje que rompe la estructura y el estilo cronístico de la obra y que visión histórica tiene de fondo. Explora también la relación entre este lamento y las tesis sobre el providencialismo respecto a los árabes como castigo divino en esta crónica. Propone considerar el pasaje en relación al conjunto de la obra, a las características del género cronístico y a la cultura del autor. Finalmente plantea que la Pérdida de España debe ser entendida como la confluencia de dos tendencias: la interpretación providencialista de la invasión árabe y un sentimiento de identidad hispana. Estas llevan a romper la estructura y estilo de la obra para introducir un lamento que rememore la 'trágica' invasión del 711
