The strategic importance of the Canary Islands was especially evident following the discovery of America. Since that distant l 5th century, and until our days, Canary has been, and is, the crossing of many of the most important sea routes. During the l 6th to the l 8th centuries the mighty Spanish Empire was largely based with the riches that carne from America, by that sort of umbilical cord which ran Indies fleets and had several points of mooring in the Canary Islands. And both pirates or countries that were fighting Spain for world supremacy were aware of this, and therefore their predators goals set in the Islands.La Palma suffered many attacks in the first 300 years of its history. This work is not intended to be more than a briefsummary ofthose attempts at invading and spoliation, and a humble but sincere tribute towards who, for so long, defended their freedom and the un ion to the distant Spain
La importancia geoestratégica de Canarias se puso especialmente de manifiesto a partir del descubrimiento de América. Desde aquel ya lejano siglo XV, y hasta nuestros días, Canarias ha sido, y es, el lugar de cruce de muchas de las más importantes rutas marítimas. Durante los siglos XVI al XVlll el poderoso imperio español se sustentaba en gran medida con las riquezas que por esas rutas llegaban de América, por aquella especie de cordón umbilical por el que discurrían las flotas de Indias y que tenía varios puntos de amarre en el Archipiélago canario. Y tanto los piratas, en beneficio propio, o los países que disputaban a España la supremacía mundial eran conocedores de ello, y por tanto fijaron en las islas sus objetivos depredadores. La Palma sufrió muchos ataques en los primeros 300 años de su historia. Este trabajo no pretende ser más que un breve resumen de aquellos intentos invasores y expoliadores y un humilde, pero sincero, homenaje a quienes, durante tanto tiempo, supieron defender su libertad y la unión a la lejana España
