The history of the late Middle Ages is full of rites, traditions and research into the phenomenon of magic, witchcraft and sorcery, as well as various references to dissident movements such as heretical mysticism or, in part, popular beguinage. The study of the life and events of these women and their relationship with the society of their time, provides us with a new and important approach to visions and currents such as the history of private life and puts a new focus on the analysis of medieval female society and culture, not only from history, but also from anthropology or the history of medicine itself, due to the work that these women carried out
La historia de la baja edad media está lleva de ritos, tradiciones, e investigaciones acerca del fenómeno de la magia, brujería o hechicería, así como de diversas referencias a movimientos disidentes como son el misticismo herético o, en parte, el beguinaje popular. El estudio de la vida y acontecimientos de estas mujeres y su relación con la sociedad de su tiempo, nos aporta un enfoque nuevo e importante en visiones y corrientes como la de la historia de la vida privada; y ponen un enfoque nuevo en el análisis de la sociedad y la cultura medieval femenina, no solo desde la historia, sino también desde la antropología o la propia historia de la medicina por las labores que venían desempeñando dichas mujeres
