Gipuzkoako Artxibo Orokorreko dokumentazio argitaragabean oinarrituta, "Jenkinsen Belarriaren Gerra" deituaren inguruabarrak berregiten ditu artikuluak; hori Donostiatik gertuko edo beronen eskumeneko gipuzkoar kostan izan zen 1742an, Cartagena de Indiaseko setioa eta berehala. Garai hartan, orian arte gutxi aztertu diren errepresaliazko hainbat itsas espedizio izan ziren Gipuzkoako portuen aurka, eta noski Blas de Lezoren jaioterria zen Pasaiako portuaren aurka ere bai, Britainia Handiko "Royal Navy"ren aldetik, baina Cartagena de Indiasekoak bezala, porrot egin zuten, eta horrek datu interesgarriak ematen dizkigu britainiarrek gerra hartan izandako baliabideen egoera kaskarraz
Using unpublished documents from the General Archive of Gipuzkoa (Archivo General de Gipuzkoa), this paper reconstructs the circumstances of the so-called "War of Jenkins' Ear" off the coast of Gipuzkoa close to San Sebastian or under its jurisdiction during the year 1742, immediately after the blockade of Cartagena de Indias. This was when there was a series of hitherto scarcely studied naval expeditions of reprisal against the ports of Gipuzkoa, including, of course, that of Pasajes, the birthplace of Blas de Lezo, by the British Royal Navy which, like that of Cartagena de Indias, was to end in a fiasco. They provide us with interesting data on the poor state of the British war resources during the war
El artículo reconstruye a partir de documentación inédita del Archivo General de Gipuzkoa las circunstancias de la llamada "Guerra de la Oreja de Jenkins" en la costa guipuzkoana próxima a San Sebastián o perteneciente a su jurisdicción durante el año 1742, inmediatamente después del asedio de Cartagena de Indias. Fecha en la que se produce una serie de, hasta ahora, poco estudiadas expediciones navales de represalia contra los puertos guipuzcoanos _incluido por supuesto el de Pasajes, localidad natal de Blas de Lezo_ por parte de la "Royal Navy" británica que, al igual que la de Cartagena de Indias, acabarán en un fiasco que nos aporta interesantes datos sobre el pobre estado de los recursos bélicos británicos durante dicha guerra
