The History of April continues to be the overwhelming and multitudinary experience of the masses in Portugal when they turned the tide of politics, economy, and culture as a whole. This is the most crucial European revolution of the second post-war period. In the biennium of 1974-75, the country, passivized by the fascist dictatorship for more than 40 years, became a place as effervescent as it was imaginative, where millions, actively and consciously, participated in the social poiesis of a new way of life, widely egalitarian and profoundly free. The "democratic counterrevolution" that followed attempted to expunge from the scene that the desires of those from bellow can be more than political spectrums, and that history is not made by States or governments, but, by classes and its movements
La historia de la Revolución de Abril no deja de ser la apabullante y multitudinaria experiencia vivida por las masas en Portugal, cuando patearon el tablero de la política, de la economía y de la cultura como un todo. Se trata de la más crucial revolución europea de la segunda posguerra. En el bienio 1974-1975, el país, inmovilizado por la dictadura fascista por más de 40 años, se convirtió en un lugar tan efervescente como imaginativo, donde millones participaron, activa y conscientemente, en la poiésis social de un nuevo modo de vida, extensamente igualitario y profundamente libre. La "contrarrevolución democrática" que siguió intenta borrar de la escena que los anhelos de los de abajo pueden ser más que espectros políticos, y que la historia no la hacen los Estados o los gobiernos, sino las clases y sus movimientos
