In this article, I consider as a central issue the recurring connection between the writings of Alfredo d'Escragnolle Taunay about the Paraguayan War and Euclides da Cunha regarding the War of Canudos, authors who respectively held the position of "military correspondent" during the mentioned wars. While investigating this relationship, I examine the construction of a specific historiographical framework within the writing of war history, under the label of "military literature," for which the works of Taunay and Cunha were positioned as equally exemplary by some of their readers, assessors, and promoters
Neste artigo, tomo como questão principal a aproximação recorrente entre os escritos de Alfredo d'Escragnolle Taunay acerca da Guerra do Paraguai e os de Euclides da Cunha sobre a Guerra de Canudos, autores que respectivamente ocuparam a função de "correspondente militar" durante as referidas guerras. Ao investigar essa relação, verifico a composição de um regime historiográfico específico à escrita da história das guerras, sob o título de "literatura militar", para o qual as obras de Taunay e Cunha foram posicionadas como igualmente exemplares por alguns de seus leitores, avaliadores e divulgadores
