Introduction: Auricular hematoma is the accumulation of blood in the pinna due to the detachment of the perichondrium from the underlying auricular chondral plane, following blunt trauma from direct blows. In this particular case, the size of the hematoma is significant and provides important considerations in similar cases in the future as a source of consultation. Objective: Describe the clinical case of a patient who presented an auricular hematoma, as well as the importance of timely diagnosis and management. Case Presentation: This is a 93-year-old male patient who presented with blunt trauma to the left auricular region that resulted in a major injury, which was managed clinically and surgically, with a favorable outcome. Discussion: The auricular hematoma occurs after a direct trauma to the ear, almost exclusively on the anterior face of the auricle. Typically, once the otohematoma is drained and compression measures are applied, the prognosis is favorable. Recent studies suggest new techniques for its management and for preventing recurrences. Conclusions: Auricular hematoma is a common entity in otorhinolaryngology, which requires timely diagnosis and adequate management, both clinical and surgical, to prevent future sequelae
Introducción: El hematoma auricular es la acumulación de sangre en el pabellón auricular como consecuencia del desprendimiento del pericondrio del plano condral auricular subyacente, posterior a trauma cerrado por golpes directos. En este caso en particular el tamaño del hematoma es significativo y aporta consideraciones importantes en casos similares a futuro como fuente de consulta. Objetivo: Describir el caso clínico de un paciente que presentó un hematoma auricular, así como la importancia de su diagnóstico y manejo oportunos. Presentación del caso: Se trata de un paciente masculino de 93 años, que presentó un trauma contuso sobre región auricular izquierda que dio como resultado una lesión grave, la misma que fue manejada clínica y quirúrgicamente, con evolución favorable. Discusión: El hematoma auricular se produce después de un traumatismo directo en el oído, casi exclusivamente en la cara anterior del pabellón auricular. Por lo general, una vez drenado el otohematoma y aplicadas las medidas de compresión, la evolución es favorable. Estudios recientes sugieren nuevas técnicas para su manejo y para la prevención de recidivas. Conclusiones: El hematoma auricular es una entidad frecuente en otorrinolaringología por lo cual requiere un diagnóstico oportuno y un manejo adecuado, tanto clínico como quirúrgico, para prevenir secuelas futuras
