Abstract: Egotistical, arrogant, insolent, womanizer, barbarian, provocative, lustful, greedy, pompous, transgressor, repetitive, scandalizer, greedy for luxuries and honors; and, at the same time, worker, independent, daring, unpredictable, unclassifiable, brillant, vital, sensitive, restless, iconoclast, observer, creator of a style, lucid critic, sympathetic to the weaknesses, a writer who used the entire dictionary, perhaps sentimental, author of a vast and brillant work. All this applies to Camilo José Cela (1916-2002). In these pages some information is given about the life and work of the author who -with Galdós, Valle Inclán, Baroja and Delibes- conquered the heights of contemporary spanish narrative.
