At top of plate 1, the title "V. ETUDE. / ETUDES D'ORNEMENS" written has also been imperfectly effaced Designs are composed mostly of plant forms, particularly acanthus leaves, and include scrolls, rosettes and friezes. Plate 27 depicts a helmet with a dragon, trimmed with laurel leaves. Plates are printed mainly in sanguine, a few in sepia. The paper bears various watermarks and counter-marks, including: AUVERGNE 1742 Plates numbered 1-80 with numerous omissions. The hand numbering in black ink from 1 to 80 at upper right corner, with the numbering 260-340 at lower right (282 omitted).
