Title devised by cataloger
The wedding took place at Vienna on Dec. 5, 1666
1. Tipped onto the 1st p. of the 2nd piece ("Sieg-Streit") is a folded port. of Leopold, apparently unrelated to the marriage (sheet 37.2 x 30.3 cm). Leopold is shown on the breast of an imperial eagle, with the motto "Consilio et Industria." At the foot are 12 lines of verse in 2 columns beginning: Diss ist der Heilge Krantz, in welchem Teütschland pranget. [Nuremberg] : Paulus Fürst excud., [ca. 1666?]
2. Sieg-Streit dess Lufft vnd Wassers : Freuden-Fest zu Pferd zu dem glorwürdigisten Beyläger beeder Kayserlichen Majestäten Leopoldi dess Ersten Römischen Kaysers ... vnd Margarita, gebohrner Königlichen Infantin auss Hispanien : dargestellet in dero kayserlichen Residentz Statt Wienn. Gedruckt zu Wienn in Oesterreich : Bey Mattheo Cosmerovio ..., anno 1667. [40] p., [30] leaves of plates (9 of them folded, of which 3 on double sheets). Signatures: A-K². The text by F. Sbarra, which includes excerpts from his libretto, is a translation of that appearing in the Italian ed. published at the same time (though the plates retain their Italian legends). The spectacle that Sbarra describes included allegorical pageantry, a horse ballet, and fireworks, and was performed on 24 and 31 Jan. 1667 in the Inner Burghof, Vienna. It was planned and directed by A. Carducci, with C. Pasetti as designer; see Watanabe-O'Kelly. The engraved or etched plates are by J. van Ossenbeeck, F. van den Steen, and G. Bouttats after N. van Hoy. The vocal music (now lost) was by A. Bertali, the instrumental music by J.H. Schmelzer. A quarto ed. with copies of the plates appeared at Frankfurt/Main ca. 1667 under title: Allerhöchst-feyerlicheste Festivitäten (Diarium europaeum, T. 15). Getty has another copy cataloged under record no. 2576-847
3. Tipped onto C1r of the 2nd piece ("Sieg-Streit") is a folded print depicting the wedding ceremony in the Augustinerkirche (plate mark 38 x 29.5 cm). Title at foot (above 16 lines of German verse in 2 columns): Kayserliches Vermählungs-Fest, geschehen zu Wien den 5. Decemb. Ao. 1666. Signed in the plate: Johann Hoffman excudit. Above the assembled company is a great pair of eyeglasses, held by an eagle, whose lenses have been replaced with scenes of the Infanta's arrival in Vienna and departure from Spain
4. Tipped onto D1r of Sieg-Streit is a double-page print depicting fireworks (plate mark 25.4 x 34.2 cm). The allegorical fireworks display took place on Dec. 8, 1666, repeated on Dec. 10. The three tableaux are here conflated into one; see Salatino, p. 86
