In what is known as the "prologue" or introduction of its On the Improvement of the Understanding, Spinoza explains -in the first person- his decision to look for the philosophical life, to inquire if there is some real good having the power to communicate itself, and which would affect the mind singly. To do this, he considers it essential to establish what the true Method in Philosophy consists of and how it can direct the Understanding towards the end sought. Spinoza then does not begin his meditation with the cogito, but neither, as is traditionally believed, with the idea of God. Its starting point, both theoretical and practical, is the experience of having ideas, and the need to amend them. In this article our porpose is to study some aspects of the relation of Spinoza's philosophy (which is essentialy an ethics) to the problem of the amendment of the intellect, to show that the endeavour of our author is in the antipodes of the Cartesian philosophical project
En lo que se conoce como el "prólogo" o introducción del Tratado de la reforma del entendimiento Spinoza explica en primera persona su decisión de buscar la vida filosófica, de investigar si existe algo que sea un bien verdadero, capaz de comunicarse, y que por sí solo afecte al ánimo de manera constante. Para ello, considera fundamental establecer en qué consiste el verdadero método en filosofía y cómo puede dirigir el entendimiento hacia el fin buscado. Spinoza entonces no empieza su meditación por el cogito, pero tampoco -como se cree tradicionalmente- por la idea de Dios. Su punto de partida, a la vez teórico y práctico, es la experiencia de tener ideas, y de la necesidad de enmendarlas. En este articulo nos proponemos estudiar algunos aspectos de la relación de la filosofía de Spinoza con el problema de la enmendación del intelecto, para mostrar que la empresa de nuestro autor se está en las antípodas del proyecto filosófico cartesiano
