Este artículo pretende insistir en el poder evocador del lenguaje en el último li-bro de Jaime Siles. En Actos de habla conviven pasado y presente, en los poe-mas aparece siempre la importancia del instante, pero también la fugacidad de la vida. La nieve, el poder del mar, son como espejismos donde el poeta valen-ciano se contempla y se borra el pensar en su figura, siempre deshaciéndose por la irrealidad de todo. El clasicismo del libro se halla en los poemas que, como si fuesen máximas de la Edad Media, nos dan consejos para no creer demasiado en la vida, sin dejar de amarla. El libro tiene la fuerza de la palabra, aquí símbolo ineludible de lo que ha de permanecer, pese a la muerte inevitable del cantor
This article examines the evocative power of language in Jaime Siles' last book. In Actos de Habla ("Speech Acts"), the past and the present coincide. The in-stant is equally important as the vanishment of life. Snow and the forceful rock-ing of the sea are mirages in which this Valencian poet contemplates himself while his thoughts dissolve within his own figure, constantly passing away into an all-encompassing unreality. The book's classicism rests in those poems that, in the manner of medieval maxims, advise us not to believe too much in life, while never ceasing to love it. This book contains the power of the word, the ineluctable symbol of that which must remain, in spite of the inevitable death of the singer
