Born in a Brooklyn warehouse in 1997, Antibalas are one of the most exciting acts in world music. Their references points are enough to make your head spin: formed in part as a nod to Fela's and Africa '70, as well as Eddie Palmieri's Harlem River Drive Orchestra, they take the palette of Afrobeat and mix in modern funk, the avant-garde, dub and electronic influences. Recognised by the likes of Tony Allen as well as Seun and Femi Kuti (all of whom have played with the group), Antibalas have secured the seal of approval for their handling of the Afrobeat legacy. Yet, their appeal has also led to crossover relevance in several fields, notably alongside the Dap-Kings, Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson for the smash hit "Uptown Funk." Here, they take to the famed stage at Moods Club in Zurich. Delivering a groove that is contagious from the first note, they perform a repertoire that leaves the crowd bouncing, and offer "deep unconditional love" while paying homage to "all the indigenous." --Rowan Standish Hayes
