This article focuses on the figure of Indalecio Prieto Tuero and the impact he has had on the history of the PSOE. This is especially true during the period of the exile, a period that, despite supposing today a little more than a quarter of the history of the socialist party, has traditionally been neglected. During that stage Prieto was the main reorganizer of the PSOE in America, the leader of the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Cortes of the Republic in exile, president of the PSOE in Exile and, at all times, the main political and doctrinal reference so far of his death at the beginning of 1962. Between 1939 and 1944 Prieto, along with the rest of the exiled politicians in Mexico, dedicated himself to the hard task of assuming defeat and reconstructing the shadow of their organizations. At the end of that period, an anti-Francoist activism began, seeking to find shelter under the wings of the Allies in World War II. Prieto insisted on this work. I intend to write about three political principles of singular importance that Prieto instituted, with great effort, in the PSOE and that marked with similar depth the socialist policy during the exile. These principles constituted, in my opinion, the dense network on which the plebiscite settled. I also believe that his analysis allows us to see the underlying logic of the contradictions and paradoxes that Indalecio Prieto's plebiscite plan hid. These principles are: the isolation of the communist party, the socialist disposition to act alone and the permanence of the party's political line above all else. Let's analyze them one by one
Este artículo se centra en la figura de Indalecio Prieto Tuero y el impacto que ha tenido en la historia del PSOE. Esto es especialmente cierto durante la etapa del exilio, un período que, pese a suponer a día de hoy un poco más de un cuarto de la historia del partido socialista, ha sido tradicionalmente poco atendido. Durante esa etapa Prieto fue el principal reorganizador del PSOE en América, el líder del Grupo Parlamentario Socialista en las Cortes de la República en el exilio, presidente del PSOE en el Exilio y, en todo momento, la principal referencia política y doctrinal hasta el momento de su muerte a principios de 1962. Entre 1939 y 1944 Prieto, junto con el resto de los políticos exiliados en México, se dedicó a la dura tarea de asumir la derrota y reconstruir la sombra de sus organizaciones. Acabado ese período comenzó un activismo antifranquista enfrascado en buscar cobijo bajo las alas de los Aliados en la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Prieto se empeñó en esta labor. pretendo escribir sobre tres principios políticos de singular importancia que Prieto instituyó, con gran esfuerzo, en el PSOE y que marcaron con similar profundidad la política socialista durante el exilio. Estos principios constituyeron, en mi opinión, la densa red sobre la que el plebiscito se asentó. Estimo, además, que su análisis permite ver la lógica subyacente a las contradicciones y paradojas que el plan plebiscitario de Indalecio Prieto escondía. Esos principios son: el aislamiento del partido comunista, la disposición socialista a actuar en solitario y la permanencia de la línea política del partido por encima de todo.
