The Yucatec Maya have a special rituality. Ritual specialists are still in charge of religion: they perform agrarian rituals and healing ceremonies. The ritual of jeets' lu'um is performed in a familyspace. Its aim is to clean a terrain from bad spirits and it is repeated every couple of years, or when its necessary. This article describes a jeets luúm performed by Dona Berta, living in Maní, Yucatan. It begins with the ethnographic description of the ritual in order to open the possibility to interpret a facet of this cosmology. Furthermore, it examines some of the problems of the investigation-practice, like the misunderstandings emerging from different interpretations given by different actors, as well as the three languages used in the relationship between anthropologist and informant: German, Spanish, and Yucatec Maya. In this way ethnographic description, participant observation and interpretation of symbols are mixed up to show the dependence on each other. Different interpretations of meanings are shown to illustrate the ambiguity of symbols. Mayan cosmology mixes christian and mayan ideas and concepts of the universe. Los mayas de Yucatán tienen una ritualidad especial y elaborada. Los especialistas en rituales están todavía a cargo de los ritos agrarios y curativos. El rito llamado jeets' lu'um se celebra en un espacio familiar. Sirve para limpiar un terreno de los malos espíritus y se repite cada tantos años, o cuando hay necesidad. En el artículo se describe un jeets' luúm ejercido por la especialista ritual doña Berta, oriunda de Maní, Yucatán. Parte de la descripción etnográfica para abrir la posibilidad de interpretar una faceta de la cosmovisión de los mayas de Yucatán. Al mismo tiempo, muestra los problemas surgidos en su investigación, como son los malos entendimientos que surgen tanto por las diferentes interpretaciones de los actores como de los tres idiomas que se están usando en la relación antropólogo-informante: alemán, español y maya. Así, la descripción etnográfica, la observación participante y la interpretación de los símbolos están entrelazadas en este artículo para mostrar la interdependencia. Para tematizar la ambigüedad de los símbolos se presentan las diferentes interpretaciones, sea de investigadores o de los participantes mismos. Se verá que en la cosmovisión maya yucateca hay un sincretismo de ideas mayas con conceptos cristianos. Estos se enfocan y se interpretan de manera diferente según cada persona
