This essay seeks to explore and contextualize evocations of mystical wounding and the wounds of Christ in the works of Teresa of Ávila. It analyzes the antecedent of Bridget of Sweden, since the revelations of this famous visionary express a particularly strong devotion to the divine wounds. Without necessarily proposing a direct influence, I propose to demonstrate how the writings of Bridget and Teresa reflect a series of traditions and maternal interpretations of the lateris vulnus or the Savior's side wound in Christian culture, together with the prophesized wound in the heart or soul of Mary in the Gospels. While Bridget's visions more graphically describe the bloody side of Christ and dilation during birth; Teresa reveals to us a comparable dynamic in the soul, without excluding the participation of the body. In the medieval imagination of Bridget, descriptions of this opening remain centered on corporality; while the feminine voice of Teresa speaks of an interior dilation that can be incorporeal, and the creation of spiritual and discursive space
Este ensayo pretende explorar y contextualizar las evocaciones de heridas místicas y las llagas de Cristo en las obras de Teresa de Jesús. Se analiza el antecedente de Brígida de Suecia, dado que las revelaciones de esta famosa visionaria expresan una devoción particularmente pronunciada por las llagas divinas. En vez de proponer necesariamente una influencia directa, propongo demostrar cómo los escritos de Brígida y Teresa reflejan una serie de tradiciones e interpretaciones maternales de la lateris vulnuso herida en el costado del Salvador en la cultura cristiana, junto a la profetizada herida del corazón o alma de María en los Evangelios. Mientras las visiones de Brígida describen más gráficamente el costado abierto de Cristo y la dilatación durante el parto; Teresa nos revela una dinámica comparable en el alma, sin excluir la participación del cuerpo. En la imaginación medieval de Brígida, las descripciones de esta abertura no se alejan de la corporeidad; en cambio, la voz femenina de Teresa nos habla de una dilatación interior que puede ser incorpórea, y la creación de un espacio espiritual y discursivo
