In his theatrical works for the Bajada de la Virgen de Las Nieves (Santa Cruz de La Palma, Canary islands), Juan Bautista Poggio Monteverde, the first known playwright to write for this festival, often refers to different species of the animal world with a clear symbolic intention. Sometimes they are associated with the concept of Good (within which the Virgin in her advocation of Las Nieves takes on the greatest role) or Evil (with the devil transmuted into a dragon or a mastiff as the most prominent reference). Fantastic or real animals are worth equally to feed the semantic load with which Poggio tries to endow his work using different Greco-Roman and Biblical sources
En su producción teatral para la Bajada de la Virgen de las Nieves (Santa Cruz de La Palma, Canarias), Juan Bautista Poggio Monteverde, el primer dramaturgo conocido que escribió para esta fiesta, recurre a menudo a la mención de distintas especies del mundo animal con una clara intención simbólica, unas veces asociadas al concepto del Bien (dentro del cual la Virgen en su advocación de Las Nieves cobra el mayor protagonismo) o al Mal (con el Demonio transmutado en dragón o en mastín como referencia más destacada).
