The growing immersion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in everyday activities, including education, responds to its ability to transform and improve various aspects of life. AI offers efficient and personalized solutions, optimizes processes and facilitates access to information and resources. In the field of education, its presence is especially significant, because it revolutionizes the way in which learning and teaching take place. Knowing the use of these tools in educational processes is essential to understand their potential and limitations. This research identifies the capabilities and limitations of the AI tool ChatGPT and its application in the educational setting, information that allows taking full advantage of its benefits, designing effective and ethical pedagogical strategies, as well as addressing the challenges that arise when integrating AI in education. The research is documentary in nature and is based on a literature review. Among the results, it is presented that ChatGPT capabilities have a great educational potential by interacting in natural language and generating coherent responses. Its versatility in styles and languages speeds up answers to complex questions and access to varied materials. However, it may lack precision and give inappropriate answers due to lack of context and ethical knowledge. Misinformation generation and lack of empathy are challenges, although it can improve curriculum design, personalize learning and act as a virtual tutor. Still, these limitations must be addressed to ensure effective and ethical educational implementation
La creciente inmersión de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) en las actividades cotidianas, incluida la educación, responde a su capacidad para transformar y mejorar diversos aspectos de la vida. La IA ofrece soluciones eficientes y personalizadas, optimiza procesos y facilita el acceso a información y recursos. En el ámbito educativo, su presencia es especialmente significativa, porque revoluciona la forma en que se aprende y enseña. Conocer el uso de estas herramientas en los procesos educativos es esencial para comprender su potencial y limitaciones. Esta investigación identifica las capacidades y limitaciones de la herramienta de IA ChatGPT y su aplicación en el ámbito educativo, información que permite aprovechar sus beneficios al máximo, diseñar estrategias pedagógicas efectivas y éticas, además de abordar los desafíos que surgen al integrar la IA en la educación. La investigación es de tipo documental y se apoya en la revisión bibliográfica. Entre los resultados se presenta que las capacidades del ChatGPT tienen un gran potencial educativo al interactuar en lenguaje natural y generar respuestas coherentes. Su versatilidad en estilos y lenguajes agiliza respuestas a preguntas complejas y el acceso a materiales variados. No obstante, puede carecer de precisión y dar respuestas inapropiadas debido a la falta de contexto y conocimiento ético. La generación de información incorrecta y la ausencia de empatía son desafíos, aunque puede mejorar el diseño curricular, personalizar el aprendizaje y actuar como tutor virtual. Aun así, se deben abordar estas limitaciones para asegurar una implementación educativa efectiva y ética
