José Antonio Muñiz Muñiz (1918-2002) was an architect linked to the generation of the recovery of Asturian modernity in the 1950s. The aim of this work is to approach his funerary work, which are mostly located in San Bernardo cemetery in Candás (Carreño). In his pantheons, we can detect the effective application of a rationalist aesthetic and a minimalism related to the architectural modernity of the moment. Thereby the architect demonstrates a profound knowledge of the functionalist catalogue through the use of "modern" materials and the repeated use of the same elementary scheme as the basis of the design: the cube
José Antonio Muñiz Muñiz (1918-2002) fue un arquitecto vinculado a la generación de la recuperación de la modernidad asturiana de la década de los cincuenta del siglo XX. Este trabajo tiene por objeto el acercamiento a su obra funeraria, emplazada en su mayor parte en el cementerio municipal de San Bernardo de Candás (Carreño). En todos los panteones proyectados por Muñiz se detecta la aplicación efectiva de una estética racionalista y un minimalismo entroncado con la modernidad arquitectónica de aquel entonces. De este modo, el arquitecto da muestra de un profundo conocimiento del catálogo funcionalista a través del uso de materiales "modernos" y del uso reiterado de un mismo esquema elemental como base del diseño: el cubo
