Cesare Pietroiusti is a contemporary artist known for his provocative performances centered around paradoxical situations that reveal the contradictions of everyday life, particularly in monetary exchanges. His academic background in medicine and subsequent doctorate in psychiatry instilled in him a love for scientific methodology and a fascination with the body and its functions, as well as with the intriguing mechanisms of the mind. However, it is in artistic practice that he found the most authentic way to investigate reality, surpassing the abstraction of science and revaluing the diversity of each individual case. His works often involve direct public participation, creating interactions that challenge traditional norms of art. He has undertaken numerous projects that seek to question and redefine economic and social values in the context of art. In 1979, he founded the Rivista di Psicologia dell'Arte, dedicated to the intersection between psychology and art. He has taught art at various international institutions, notably IUAV in Venice and Lesley University in Boston. He has participated (and continues to participate) in numerous artistic and curatorial projects and was president of Palaexpo until 2022. In 2020, MAMbo organized his first anthological exhibition. He lives and works in Rome, where we conducted this interview in his spacious studio in Trastevere, filled with memories, ideas, and performance suggestions
Cesare Pietroiusti es un artista contemporáneo conocido por sus provocadoras performances centradas en situaciones paradójicas que revelan las contradicciones de la vida cotidiana, en particular en los intercambios monetarios. Su formación académica en medicina y su posterior doctorado en psiquiatría le inculcaron un amor por la metodología científica y una fascinación por el cuerpo y su funcionamiento, así como por los intrigantes mecanismos de la mente. Sin embargo, es en la práctica artística que encontró la forma más auténtica de investigar la realidad, sobrepasando la abstracción de la ciencia y revalorizando la diversidad de cada caso individual. Sus obras a menudo implican la participación directa del público, creando interacciones que desafían las normas tradicionales del arte. Ha realizado numerosos proyectos que buscan cuestionar y redefinir los valores económicos y sociales en el contexto del arte. En 1979, fundó la Rivista di Psicologia dell'Arte dedicada a la intersección entre la psicología y el arte. Ha enseñado arte en diversas instituciones internacionales, destacando la IUAV de Venecia y la Lesley University de Boston.
